• 1. Why is the Authority seeking information on Day-Cares, Nurseries and Child Care Businesses?
    The Children’s Authority wants to determine the number of Child Care Businesses, Nurseries or Day-Care centres that provide services for children under the age of five. This is in preparation for legislation regulating these businesses.
  • 2. How do I submit my Day-Care/Nursery's information to the Authority?
    Managers and owners should:
    • visit the Authority’s website and fill out the form at www.ttchildren.org/nurseries OR
    • contact the Licensing & Monitoring Unit at 627-8597ext 40546, 40368 or 40552
    Parents and guardians may also contact the Authority to advise of any of these establishments within their communities.
  • 3. Can persons who are interested in opening a Child Care Business submit their information?
    Yes once a space has been identified and the establishment will be opened within the next 3 to 6 months.
  • 4. Are there any fees attached to the registration?
    No.
  • 5. Is there any set standard for operating a Day-Care or Nursey?
    At present, there is no required standard as legislation has not yet been proclaimed. Once the legislation has been made law, the Authority will communicate with all stakeholders.
  • 6. Are there any current legislation regulating the operation of Nurseries and Day-Cares in Trinidad and Tobago?
    No.
  • 7. What is the role of the Authority as it pertains to Nurseries and Day-Cares in Trinidad and Tobago?
    Once the legislation has been proclaimed, the Authority’s role will be to provide our standards of operations and to monitor and license all Day-Cares, Nurseries and Child Care Businesses.
  • 8. Should I still report abuse at a Nursery or Day-Care to the Authority given the impending legislation?
    Yes, all reports of abuse against children should be reported to the Authority at 996/800-2014 or the police at 999.
  • 9. What can be expected prior to and after the legislation for Nurseries has been proclaimed?
    The Authority will be hosting sensitisation sessions for all stakeholders to ensure that they are aware of the changes and standards to be met, as outlined in the legislation.
  • 10. Should Managers and Owners of Nurseries and Day-Cares be fearful to submit their information to the Authority?
    No, the registration is the first phase to determine how many of these establishments exist.
