Children's Authority operational

Date: 2015-06-16

The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is now operational and ready to deliver services to children and their families.

This comes following proclamation on Monday 18th May, 2015, of the following pieces of legislation:

Stephanie Daly, S.C., Chairman of the Board of Management of the Authority says 'we welcome the proclamations as they contain many new options that can better respond to the needs of children, and represent a new beginning in the way issues related to children will be addressed'.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Sharifa Ali-Abdullah, Director of the Authority says 'the preparatory work involved in setting up the Authority has been an enormous undertaking and we are thrilled that we are now at a point, where we are far better empowered to make necessary interventions to safeguard children'.

The Authority will hold a news conference on Wednesday 20th May, 2015 from 10:00 am at the Hyatt Regency, Trinidad, where full details concerning proclamation will be shared.

The Children's Authority is a child-centred, family focused organisation. It acts on behalf of children who are in need of care and protection and promotes their well-being while safeguarding them from abuse, neglect and other forms of harm.

The Authority reminds the public that child protection is everyone's business.
